‘What kind of justice is this?’, Rahul Gandhi furious over Kuldeep Sengar getting bail, can meet Unnao gangrape victim today

A bench of the Delhi High Court has suspended the life sentence awarded to former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in 2019 by the trial court in the Unnao rape case. Congress MP and Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi has also got angry on this. He has expressed his displeasure by posting on X. There is news that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi can meet the Unnao victim at 7 pm today.

After the court’s decision on Tuesday, the victim, her mother and women’s rights activist Yogita Bhayana protested at India Gate. During the protest, Delhi Police removed the victim, her mother and Yogita Bhayana, preventing them from protesting.

Rahul said- Raising voice in democracy is a right

While supporting the gangrape victim, Rahul Gandhi asked, ‘Is such treatment of a gangrape victim appropriate? Is it her fault that she is daring to raise her voice for justice? It is extremely disappointing and shameful for his culprit (former BJP MLA) to get bail. Especially when the victim is being tortured again and again, and she is living in fear. Bail to rapists and treating victims like criminals, what kind of justice is this? We are not only becoming a dead economy, with such inhuman incidents we are also becoming a dead society. In a democracy, raising the voice of dissent is a right, and suppressing it is a crime. The victim should get respect, protection and justice, not helplessness, fear and injustice.

The victim’s mother said- They are taking my daughter captive.

When the victim sat on a dharna in Delhi against the bail granted to Kuldeep Sengar, she was removed from there. Regarding this, the victim’s mother said, ‘We did not get justice, they are taking my daughter captive. These security personnel want to kill us all. They took my daughters in a CRPF vehicle. Kuldeep Sengar’s bail should be cancelled. Otherwise we will give up our lives. Otherwise we will be killed, we are not safe. We want justice. We want justice from the Supreme Court. We will not leave until we get justice.

Victim’s allegation- bail given before 2027 elections

The 2017 Unnao gangrape case victim at India Gate alleged that Sengar has been granted bail keeping in mind the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. This 2017 case had sparked controversy when a truck without a number plate collided with the car in which the victim was travelling.

The victim and her lawyer were seriously injured in this incident. Whereas, his two aunts had died. A separate case is registered against Sengar in this matter. In this case too, in 2021, a Delhi court, while acquitting him of the charges, refused to consider the accident as a conspiracy due to lack of evidence.
