A sensational incident came to light on Sunday evening in the Old City area of Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. At around 10 pm on Sunday night, an unknown person stopped a vehicle carrying the flag of Majlis (AIMIM) in Goalpura area and beat up the workers from Maharashtra and also tore the party flag. The incident occurred when these workers were going for dinner after attending a massive rally led by former MP Imtiaz Jaleel.
Victim activist Arif Khan told that he had come to Hyderabad from Maharashtra with former MP Imtiaz Jalil. After the rally, on Monday morning he met party president Asaduddin Owaisi and Charminar MLA Zulfikar in Darussalam. In the evening, when he was going to his friend Mansoor Bhai’s house for a party, a man stopped his car near Goalpura.
What did the victims say?
According to Arif Khan, “The man saw the green Majlis flag installed on the car and got enraged. He shouted that this flag will not work here. He broke the flag and when we protested, he punched our companions Rajik Bhai, Bismillah Bhai and Aziz Bhai on the chest. When I was in the driver’s seat, he grabbed my neck and attacked my ear hard.” The victims allege that police and public were present there, but no one came forward to help.
Confirming the matter, Mughalpura Police Inspector said that an FIR has been registered on the complaint of Arif Khan at around 9:00 pm. Police are currently scanning the CCTV footage of the area so that the attacker can be identified. The Inspector has appealed to the public not to pay attention to the rumors circulating on social media, as there is peace in the area.
Police started investigating the case
Hyderabad has always been AIMIM’s stronghold, but in recent years the party’s growing expansion in Maharashtra (especially in the Aurangabad and Mumbai belts) has led to increased coordination between workers from the two states. This kind of attack in the presence of big leaders like Imtiaz Jalil raises questions on the security system. In the past too, there have been sporadic clashes in the old city over political flags and slogans, in view of which the police are now taking extra vigilance.
After the attack, local Majlis MLA Zulfikar and corporator Muzaffar consoled the workers. The activists said that if they wanted, they could have retaliated, but Asaduddin Owaisi’s teachings are to maintain ‘peace and tranquility’, hence they have chosen the path of law. At present, the police is busy searching for the accused.
