India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has given a big statement on Monday (January 12, 2026) regarding Ariha Shah’s case. He said that India is continuously talking to German officials regarding the case of Ariha Shah. He also emphasized that New Delhi is looking at this matter from a humanitarian perspective. Along with this, she is also providing all possible help to Ariha’s family. Actually, Ariha Shah is an Indian girl, who has been under the foster care of Germany for the last 40 months i.e. 3 years and four months.
We understand the pain and suffering of the family – Misri
Addressing a media briefing in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, the Foreign Secretary said, ‘India is in constant touch with the German authorities both in Germany and in India. We have been in constant dialogue with the German government, all German officials, their embassy in New Delhi, the German government in Berlin as well as all relevant agencies related to this matter for a long time.
He said, ‘The case of Ariha Shah was initially seen as a legal matter, but India has believed from the beginning that this case should be looked at from a humanitarian perspective and this case should be resolved keeping in mind the humanitarian issues involved.’
Emphasizing the government’s awareness of the pain of Ariha Shah’s family, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, ‘We understand the pain and suffering of Ariha Shah’s family. We also understand this entire situation and we are trying to provide all possible help to the victim’s family regarding this matter.
Efforts are being made to maintain Ariha’s connection with India – Egyptian
At the same time, during this time he also talked about Ariha Shah living in Germany maintaining her connection with India. He said that while living in Germany, we are continuously trying our best to ensure that Ariha remains connected to the cultural environment of India. We are trying to ensure that baby Ariha is brought up in an Indian environment as much as possible. Be it talking to the people of India or his participation in Indian festivals celebrated in Germany.
