Sanju Samson Replaces Suryakumar Yadav As India T20I Captain: Team India has created history by winning the title of ICC T20 World Cup 2026. India has won this trophy for the record third time and has become the first team in the world to achieve such a feat. After this title win, discussions have intensified regarding future preparations and new faces for captaincy in Indian men’s cricket. Sanju Samson is the biggest name emerging in the race for captaincy of Team India in T20 International. Samson, who played an important role in India’s victory by scoring three consecutive half-centuries in the T20 World Cup 2026, is now being seen as the successor of Suryakumar Yadav.
Sanju Samson can be the captain of Team India after Surya
After making Team India the world champion, Suryakumar Yadav has also joined the list of legends like Kapil Dev, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, but at the age of 35, question marks may be raised on his long captaincy. Surya will be 37 years old by the time of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the next T20 World Cup. In such a situation, BCCI is working on a plan.
Mohammad Kaif called Sanju Samson a strong contender
Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has described Sanju Samson as a strong contender for the captaincy of Team India in T20 International. Kaif believes that Sanju has the experience and understanding which is necessary for a captain. Describing Sanju as a contender, Kaif said, ‘It is difficult to say right now who will be the next captain, but Samson can be a strong option. After all why not? A captain should be one who has seen the world. Making changes in bowling, fielding a perfect playing eleven and supporting out-of-form players, a captain knows that these things are part of the game.
Sanju Samson also has IPL experience
Referring to Sanju Samson’s IPL experience, Mohammad Kaif said, ‘I think Samson can definitely be a candidate. If Surya steps down then Sanju can fill that place. He has captained a lot in IPL and took Rajasthan Royals to the final of 2022. He is only 31 years old and can become the next captain of Team India.
