Abrar Ahmed News: Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise is under the scanner, having bought Pakistani player Abrar Ahmed in The Hundred League auction. Sunrisers Leeds team had bid Rs 2.34 crore for Abrar Ahmed. After this, there is an uproar on social media and Sunrisers Hyderabad and especially Kavya Maran are being trolled fiercely. Now Sunrisers Leeds team head coach Daniel Vettori himself has revealed why his team bought the Pakistani player.
Sunrisers Leeds is owned by Sun TV Network, which also owns the IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad. Abrar Ahmed has become the first player to be bought by an Indian franchise in The Hundred League.
Why buy Pakistani player?
After the auction, coach Daniel Vettori told that when he could not buy Adil Rashid, he had to target another leg-spinner.
He said, “Our priority was to buy Adil Rashid, but that could not happen. That’s why we explored the options of foreign spinner players. We had our eyes on 4-5 players and Abrar was one of them. We were very happy to have him in the squad.”
No discussion on buying Pakistani player
Daniel Vettori also revealed that there was no discussion among the management that the team cannot buy any Pakistani player. Whereas earlier reports had come out that IPL teams would ignore Pakistani players in the auction. SRH Leeds also considered buying another Pakistani bowler Usman Tariq and Bangladeshi spinner Rishad Hussain before making a final bid on Abrar Ahmed. In his international T20 career so far, he has taken 52 wickets in 38 matches.
