India AI Impact Summit 2026 has started. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has talked in detail about the concerns about jobs due to Artificial Intelligence. In an interview given to news agency ANI, the PM said that the best cure for fear is ‘preparation’. Said that AI is not a problem of the future but a need of the present time, that is why he is investing in skilling and re-skilling of the people here.
What is the purpose of AI summit?
PM Modi said, ‘AI is standing at an important juncture of civilization in today’s era. It can expand people’s capabilities in unprecedented ways, but guidance is necessary for this. Otherwise it can also pose a challenge. This is why in this summit we have focused on such impact which ensures meaningful results and not just innovation. The ultimate goal of technology should be ‘welfare of all, happiness of all’.
The Prime Minister said, ‘Technology is to serve humanity, not to replace it. The summit is based on ‘People, Planet and Progress’. AI systems use information and data present in societies around the world. Therefore, we want the benefits of AI to reach everyone and not be limited only to early users. As the first global AI summit, India is creating a platform that empowers underrepresented voices and development priorities. Our vision is clear that AI should accelerate global development while remaining human-centric.
There is a fear among a section of youth about losing jobs due to AI, how is the government dealing with this challenge?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, I understand the concerns of the youth regarding AI in the job market. The best cure for fear is preparation. That’s why we’re investing in skilling our people and teaching them new skills for an AI-based future. We are not seeing this as a problem of the future, but taking it as a need of the present.
He said, “I see AI as a force that will help us push our boundaries further. It will enable doctors, teachers and lawyers to reach and help a larger group of people. History has shown that work does not go away due to technology, it changes its nature and new types of jobs are created. Although the definition of some jobs may change, digital transformation will also add new technical jobs to India’s economy. For centuries there has been a fear that innovation and Technological revolutions will destroy jobs, yet history teaches us that whenever innovation occurs, new opportunities arise.”
What is the role of AI in developed India 2047?
PM Modi said, the role of AI is very important in the journey of developed India by 2047. AI is already showing impact in the health service sector. In a very unique initiative, Amul is using AI to reach out to 36 lakh women spread across thousands of villages. At a time when the world is worried about AI increasing inequalities, India is using it to address inequalities. We are making it an effective means of providing healthcare, education and economic opportunities to every village, every district and every citizen.”
What are the concerns regarding AI, how will India address this issue?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Concerns related to bias and limitations in AI are extremely relevant even today. As the use of AI accelerates, the risks are also increasing. AI systems can inadvertently promote biases related to gender, language and socio-economic background. AI Impact Summit 2026 is creating global awareness on issues like biases and limitations of AI. This is an issue that requires global cooperation. There are challenges and opportunities in front of India in particular.”
How will India deal with misuse of AI?
The PM said, “Technology is a powerful tool. But it is also an important medium to enhance human needs. It is our responsibility to ensure that it becomes a force for positivity. AI can enhance human capabilities, but the ultimate responsibility for decision-making should always remain with people. There is a debate around the world on how AI should be used and controlled. We need a global agreement on AI based on some fundamental principles. These include effective human oversight, safety-based design, transparency and “This should include strict restrictions on the use of AI for deepfakes, crime and terrorist activities.”
India is the hub of engineering talent, how can we further strengthen it in the AI era?
