There have been indications for some time that OpenAI does not want to limit its ChatGPT to just chatbots. Now information is coming out that the company wants to develop it as an operating system also. Like Android and iOS, it will be able to run apps and work as a digital interface. For this, the company has hired Glenn Coates, who will play the role of head of the app platform and has been given the responsibility of bringing major changes on the platform.
Quotes are coming to OpenAI from Shopify
Till now, Coates was working as Vice President and Head of Product at Shopify. Coates himself has posted on X and informed about his move to OpenAI. He wrote that he is joining OpenAI and will help turn ChatGPT into an operating system. In his new role he will report to Nick Turley, Head of ChatGPT. Let us tell you that Coats has experience in developing big platforms. OpenAI has not said anything officially about making ChatGPT an operating system, but taking the quotes together means that the company is thinking seriously in this direction.
The company is making AI devices
The news of converting ChatGPT into an operating system has come at a time when OpenAI is building an AI device. It can be launched in 2027. No information has been received about what this device will be, but for this OpenAI is working together with former Apple designer Jony Ive.
Apps can be integrated in ChatGPT
ChatGPT is no longer just a chatbot and integration of apps has started in it. This means that now many third party apps can be accessed through this chatbot only. Thanks to integration with apps like Spotify and Canva, users can now listen to songs, edit images, manage documents, etc. without leaving ChatGPT.
