The hearing was conducted by the bench of Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sandeep Mehta and Justice NV Anjariya. The bench of three judges made it clear that now not only the officers but also those who feed them will be held accountable for dog attacks. The Supreme Court will hold its next hearing on January 20, 2026 at 2 pm.

Supreme Court is strict on dog lovers

The Supreme Court has said that public places like hospitals, railway stations, bus depots and educational institutes cannot be made living places for dogs. The Supreme Court told the dog lovers in a strict tone, ‘Those who claim that they are well-wishers of dogs, then they should take these animals to their homes.’

Who will take responsibility for attacks on children – Court

Referring to an incident in the Gujarat High Court, Justice Mehta said that the situation is so terrible that dog attacks are taking place even in the courts. The worst thing is that when municipal corporation employees go to catch the dogs, dog lovers and lawyers attack them.

The bench asked who will take responsibility when a dog attacks an innocent 9-year-old child? Will the organization that feeds the dogs on the street take over?

Government’s negligence will not be tolerated – Court

The Supreme Court indicated that it may expand the scope of its order of November 7, in which it was said to remove dogs from public places. The court said in strong words that the government’s negligence will no longer be tolerated. In the coming time, the court can develop a system where people who are victims of stray dogs will be given huge relief amount from the state treasury. So that the administration can be serious about its responsibilities.
