At the same time, in Maharashtra, BJP’s ally and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena got 29 seats and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar got only 3 seats. On which now former Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal has given a big statement. Targeting Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, he said that you will come to power by compromising with BJP, you will also become the Deputy Chief Minister, but after that your future will be over.
What did Kapil Sibal say about BJP?
Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal said on Sunday (January 18, 2026) that the election results of 29 municipal corporations of Maharashtra, including Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), give some indications. This signal is for Maharashtra as well as for the elections held at the national level.
He said that all the parties have suffered losses in the municipal elections in Maharashtra, only the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has gained. BJP’s strategy has been to first pass and then exile. In states where BJP feels that it is weak, it will not get many votes and will not be able to win the elections, then it compromises with all the small parties there. After this, when it comes to power, it marginalises all those parties.
