You may soon have to pay to use WhatsApp. This is being said because the company is working on a new subscription plan, under which users will get an ad-free experience. That is, if you do not want to see ads in WhatsApp status and channel, then you may have to subscribe to a paid plan. Not much information has been revealed about this plan yet, but it is believed that its focus will be on ad-free experience.
Ads started on WhatsApp last year
Meta started showing ads in WhatsApp status and channels last year. There was a lot of opposition to this decision of the company. Till now, WhatsApp users who were enjoying ad-free experience did not like this change. However, despite opposition, Meta did not change its decision. Now the company is making a new plan, in which users may have to pay money for an ad-free experience. New strings have been seen in the app code in version 2.26.3.9 of WhatsApp, due to which it is being speculated that the company is working on a new subscription plan.
Less possibility of premium features
As of now, no information has been revealed regarding the price of the subscription plan, its features and roll out. According to reports, the focus of this plan will be only on removing ads and there is very little possibility of getting any premium features in it. Also, the picture regarding its availability is not clear yet. Meta had launched ad-free subscription options of Facebook and Instagram in some selected places, but this was done due to pressure from the European Union. In such a situation, it is not yet known whether WhatsApp will roll out this subscription plan for users globally or it will be offered in selected places only.
