Youth beaten to death on suspicion of being Bangladeshi in Kerala, CM Vijayan orders strict action, 5 arrested

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday (22 December 2025) assured that justice will be provided to the family of Chhattisgarh native Ram Narayan, who lost his life in mob violence in Walayar in Palakkad district. He described this incident as extremely worrying and said that such acts tarnish the reputation of a progressive society like Kerala and are completely unacceptable.

‘Strict action will be taken against those responsible’

In a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, Vijayan said that strict action will be taken against those responsible for this crime. He said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the leadership of the District Police Chief is investigating the incident. Instructions have been issued to thoroughly investigate all aspects of the case and initiate all necessary legal action. CM Vijayan said that the government will review the case and ensure appropriate compensation to the victim’s family.

The family refused to take the dead body

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s comments came a day after the opposition Congress and the victim’s family demanded compensation and an investigation under stringent laws including the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The brother of deceased Ram Narayan (31 years) said that the family will not take the body until the compensation of Rs 25 lakh and other demands are met.

Ramanarayanan was allegedly beaten to death on Wednesday (December 17, 2025) evening for his involvement in theft at Kizhakettappalam near Walayar. Leader of opposition in the state assembly, VD Satheesan, had written a letter to the Chief Minister requesting him to provide immediate financial assistance to Ramnarayan’s family.

More than 80 injury marks on the body of the deceased

The incident of mob lynching of Ram Narayan Baghel has shocked the entire country. Meanwhile, Congress National General Secretary and Lok Sabha MP KC Venugopal condemned the incident on Sunday (21 December 2025). Calling it shocking, he demanded strict action from the government. The mob brutally beat Ram Narayan to death, considering him to be a Bangladeshi infiltrator on suspicion of theft. In the postmortem report, more than 80 injury marks were found on the body, ribs were broken. So far, five people have been arrested for beating Ramnarayan to death.

Congress targeted Kerala government

Doctors described it as a very brutal attack, where no part of the body remained untouched. The incident took place on December 17-18, when Ram Narayan had come to Kerala in search of work. Venugopal wrote on Instagram, ‘The incident of mob lynching of Ram Narayan Baghel, a resident of Chhattisgarh in Palakkad, Kerala, is very shocking. It cannot be tolerated at all that such violent forces become dominant.
