It is no longer possible to play videos in the background on YouTube without subscription. Actually, the company offers the option of background play in its premium plan, but many users were able to enjoy this feature absolutely free by making some tricks. Now the company has strictly stopped these methods, which will affect millions of users. Now if someone is playing a video without the premium plan, then the video playing in the background will stop as soon as the screen is turned off or the browser is minimized.
Users were playing background videos for free in these ways
In YouTube’s premium plan, users get the feature of background play. Under this, the video continues to play in the background even when the screen is off or another app is being used. However, many users were accessing this feature for free using third-party browsers. When minimized, the video kept playing in the background on these browsers, due to which the user got the feature of premium subscription without paying money. Now YouTube has banned it.
Now this change happened
According to media reports, YouTube was keeping an eye on this for a long time. Acting on complaints about this free feature on browsers like Samsung Internet, Edge and Vivaldi, YouTube has fixed it. Now as soon as the browser is minimized, the video playing in the background will stop immediately. Along with this, methods like clearing cache from the browser and changing picture-in-picture settings are also not working. YouTube’s parent company Google has also confirmed this. The company has said that background playback is only for premium users.
