Prabhas’s much awaited film ‘The Raja Saab’ has come at the center of a big controversy even before its release. Swedish DJ and music producer Vidogen has made serious allegations of music piracy regarding the film’s recently released song ‘Nache Nache’. This controversy increased further when the foreign artist directly expressed his displeasure through social media by showing the slippers.
Sweden’s famous DJ Vidogen shared a post on his social media handle and asked whether his track ‘Alameyo’, released in 2024, has been copied. Comparing the tune and beats of ‘Naache Naache’ with his own song, he called it a ‘straight lift’. Vidogen sarcastically asked whether such copying is happening in the Indian film industry in the year 2024-25 also?
Saved superstar Prabhas
However, amid this controversy, Vidogen also defended superstar Prabhas. He clarified that Prabhas had no role in this theft and described him as a ‘brilliant actor’. His target was directly on the film’s music composer Thaman.S.
Such allegations have been made against Thaman before also.
This is not the first time that composer Thaman S has been accused of stealing tunes. Even before this, claims of ‘copy-paste’ have been made on social media regarding many of his songs. In the case of ‘Naache Naache’, netizens say that the main melody and electronic beats of the song are similar to the tracks of Vidogen and Oliver Loan. Music lovers have taken Thaman to task by sharing clips of both the songs on social media platform ‘X’ and Reddit. Critics believe that such music piracy in big films of ‘Pan-India’ scale affects the image of Indian cinema at the international level.
The film may get stuck in legal trouble
‘The Raja Saab’ is a horror-fantasy film, which is being directed by Maruti. While on one hand Prabhas’ fans are standing in support of their favorite star, on the other hand they seem angry with Thaman’s working style. The song ‘Nache Nache’ was originally said to be a remake version of the song from the Bollywood classic ‘Disco Dancer’, but the use of foreign beats in it may now land in legal trouble.
At present, no official clarification has come from Thaman S or the film production organization ‘People Media Factory’ on these allegations of Vidogen. It remains to be seen whether this dispute takes a legal turn or will it be swept under the rug by giving it the name of ‘sampling’.
