Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday (January 19, 2026) congratulated the workers and people on the victory of Congress and UDF in the civic elections held in Kerala. He said that I want to congratulate all those who participated in the local body elections and gave excellent results to the Congress party and the UDF. He said that we have performed brilliantly at all levels, be it Gram Panchayat, Block Panchayat, Zilla Parishad, Municipality or Municipal Corporation.
He said that I am especially happy because Panchayats, which are the third tier of government, are the foundation of our democratic system. If we want to protect the Constitution, we will have to protect the Panchayats and Municipalities. The foundation of the Constitution is one person, one vote and that means every Indian citizen should have a voice in the running of our country.
Rahul Gandhi targeted BJP and RSS
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said in the Mahapanchayat organized in Kochi, Kerala, ‘If you look a little deeper at the difference between BJP, RSS and Congress Party, you will know that they stand for centralization of power and we stand for decentralization of power. They expect the people of India to obey without thinking, they do not want to listen to the voice of the people of India.
He said, ‘The ideological attack of BJP and RSS is designed to create a culture of silence. They want India to remain silent and not express itself and they want to give all the wealth of the country to a few business houses. They want an India where the wealth of all our people is owned by a select few and they know that this is possible only if the voice of the Indian people is suppressed. I can tell you with full confidence that no one can suppress the voice of the people of Kerala and in the coming assembly elections and local body elections, the people of Kerala will ensure that their voice is loud and clear.
He said, ‘This morning, I went to an award ceremony for Dr. Lilavati ji. She is 98 years old and she wakes up at 3 in the morning and then reads and writes. He is one of the many who have protected the voice of Kerala, its people and its traditions. Today in our conversation he said a very powerful thing. He talked about the culture of silence and how it is spreading across India.
I was very clear about what to do after winning the elections- Rahul
Rahul Gandhi said, ‘We had many meetings in which senior leaders came to Delhi and in those meetings different people had different opinions and I was very clear. In both those meetings, I said that UDF is going to win the Panchayat elections and Assembly elections, but for me there is a big question – what are the UDF and Congress party going to do after winning the elections? There is a huge problem of unemployment in this state. The UDF and the Congress party have to give a vision for Kerala that solves this unemployment problem and I am confident that the leadership present on this platform has the ability to understand what the people of Kerala want and can give them what the people of Kerala need.
