Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Sadanand Saraswati Maharaj of Dwarka Sharda Peeth, during his stay in Chhindwara, has strongly attacked the current political, social and legal anomalies by keeping a scriptural perspective. He clarified that the basic basis of politics is ‘Policy’ i.e. ‘Religion’, and when the power abandons this dignity, then it is inevitable that there will be a deadlock in the system.
Power and principle: Not ‘grandfathering’, it is the discipline of religion
On the ongoing standoff between Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati and the government in Uttar Pradesh, Shankaracharya said that banning the center of faith ‘Ganga Snan’ is a direct violation of religious freedom. Rejecting the allegations of ‘dadagiri’ leveled by the Akhara Parishad, he said, “It is the duty of a Sadhu to protect the principles. We are there to lead the society on the right path, and for this it is mandatory to follow the principles ourselves. Swami Avimukteshwaranand Ji is only protecting the Sanatan traditions and values, which is his duty.
Question on patriotism: ‘Conspiracy against the country by eating its food is unforgivable’
Expressing concern over the increasing communal tension and terrorist incidents in the country, Shankaracharya pointed towards ‘intellectual terrorism’. Giving the example of Delhi bomb blast, he said that it is ironic that doctors and engineers coming out of our own educational institutions are conspiring against the country. He called upon the entire Hindu community to unite and fight against those who do not consider it as their birthplace by living in this country and enjoying its facilities.
UGC amendment: ‘Step to increase social disharmony, withdrawal is the only option’
Taking a strong stance on the changes proposed in the UGC Act by the Central Government, Shankaracharya demanded its complete withdrawal. He argued that when there are already enough sections in the Constitution and the SC-ST Act to punish crimes, making new rules for a particular caste is like pushing the society towards an ‘upper vs backward’ war.
He clarified that whether the culprit is a Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya or man or woman, the provision of punishment should be the same for everyone. With such new provisions, a class will automatically be proven ‘criminal’, which is not fair.
Commendable initiative on cow protection
At the end of his address, he heartily welcomed and thanked a Muslim MLA from Bhopal for advocating a ban on cow slaughter. Describing this as a positive example, he said that protection of cow progeny is a shared social responsibility.

Today Shankaracharya Sadanand Saraswati Maharaj of Dwarka Sharda Peeth reached Chhindwara by special aircraft. Congress performed Paduka puja of Shankaracharya at Imlikheda airstrip. After this, Paduka puja was performed at the residence of Ujjwal Suryavanshi and BJP MP Ujjwal Suryavanshi. In the evening Shankaracharya left for Seoni where he would lay the foundation stone of the ashram on Saturday.
