Before the Rajya Sabha elections, the political atmosphere in Telangana has heated up. Till now Congress was considered to have a clear lead in the voting for two seats, but BRS chief K. With Chandrashekhar Rao becoming active, the contest has become open. Elections are to be held on 37 seats in the country and Telangana has now become a big center of discussion.
BRS increased Congress’s concern
BJP’s position in Telangana is not strong, hence the contest seems to be straight between Congress and BRS. KCR has challenged Congress’s strategy by deciding to field at least one candidate. There is news that they can field some big name.
Bet will be decided by numbers game
To win a Rajya Sabha seat, support of 41 MLAs is required. BRS has 37 MLAs, but out of these, 10 MLAs have gone with Congress. A case is going on regarding their membership. The Speaker has rejected BRS’s objection on eight MLAs, while the decision on two is pending. If BRS keeps its MLAs together, it will need only four more votes. It is being told that the party is busy gathering support from other parties.
Congress has an edge, but caution is necessary
Congress has 66 MLAs and also has the support of one CPI MLA. Earlier the party was confident that both the seats would be easily won, but now it will have to enter the field with full force.
The role of small parties is important
The stance of the 10 MLAs who have separated from BRS can decide the direction of the elections. Apart from this, eight MLAs of BJP and seven MLAs of AIMIM can also play an important role. In such a situation, there is a possibility of tough competition on the second seat.
discussion on possible faces
Congress can again send Abhishek Manu Singhvi from one seat. The names of Chief Minister’s advisor V. Narendra Reddy and retired judge Justice Sudarshan Reddy are in discussion for the second seat.
