Assembly elections are to be held in Assam shortly. In view of this, political activities have intensified in the state. Meanwhile, a surprising news has come out, which has shaken the politics of the state. According to the information, the statue of the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru has been demolished.
BJP and RSS workers have been accused of demolishing a 10 feet statue of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in Cachar district. The video of this incident is rapidly going viral on social media. On Tuesday morning, walkers saw the damaged statue.
Congress leader Pradeep Kumar Dey said on Wednesday that we immediately informed the police. Officials initially claimed that the statue fell on its own, but CCTV footage showed that a group was breaking it with the help of a machine.
We strongly condemn the cowardly and outrageous act of vandalism of Pandit Nehru’s statue at Lakhipur in Cachar district, Assam. The statue was brazenly vandalized using an excavator.

When was the statue installed
This statue was installed in 2000 in front of Nehru College, which was established in 1965. Congress leader Pradeep Kumar Dey said the region has an old tradition of honoring the first Prime Minister, which started with the establishment of a high school in Nehru’s name in 1953. Here we have a great tradition of honoring the first Prime Minister.
Congress has lodged an FIR regarding this incident. Local police officer Shankar Dayal has confirmed that a case has been registered and the digging machine seen in the footage has been seized. He said that we have digital evidence and our teams are busy identifying the persons involved. The accused will be arrested as soon as they are identified.
Congress leader made allegations
Congress targeted local BJP MLA and minister Kaushik Rai, in whose constituency the incident occurred. Former Congress district chief Abhijeet Paul said that the BJP leader has not given any statement on this. This area falls in the constituency of BJP MLA Kaushik Rai who is also a minister, but he has not said a single word on this.
