These two overs were the turning point of India’s victory, otherwise England had ‘played’; 254 runs would have been chased

The second semi-final of T20 World Cup 2026 was played between India and England on Thursday (05 March) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In the match, India batted first and scored 253/7 runs on the board in 20 overs. After this it seemed that the Indian team under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav would easily register victory. But in the chase, England’s batsmen came on the field with different intentions.

The English batsmen batted fiercely for 15 overs. Chasing the target of 254 runs, England had put 185/5 runs on the board in 15 overs. From here the English team needed 69 runs to win in 5 overs. According to the way England’s batsmen were playing, 69 runs in 5 overs did not seem very much. Jasprit Bumrah’s 16th over

When 69 runs were needed in 5 overs, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav decided to hand the ball to Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah also proved to be absolutely right on the captain’s decision. He spent only 08 runs in his over, which increased the pressure on England. Now England needed 61 runs in 24 balls. At this time the net run rate had definitely reached above 15.

Bumrah’s 18th over

After Bumrah gave away only 08 runs in the 16th over, Arshdeep Singh gave away 16 runs in the 17th over, which released the pressure from England. But Bumrah once again did wonders and put India under pressure from the 18th over by putting India in a strong position.

Bumrah spent only 06 runs in the 18th over. The pressure was again on England. From here England needed 39 runs in 2 overs to win.
