Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has appealed to the top leaders of the Maoist organization, especially all the members of the Central Committee, to give up their arms and join the mainstream. He said that the state government is ready to withdraw the cases registered against the Maoists within the ambit of the law and, if necessary, is also ready to constitute a committee to review the cases.
The Chief Minister said this in a press conference during the Maoist surrender program organized at the Integrated Command and Control Center in Hyderabad. In this program, a total of 130 Maoists surrendered with 124 sophisticated weapons.
CM welcomed the surrendered Maoists
Welcoming the surrendered Maoists, the Chief Minister said that the state government had called for them to return to the mainstream and their positive response to this was an important step. He said that the government is committed to rehabilitate all of them in the mainstream of the society.
Revanth Reddy said that a decision will also be taken soon on giving economic assistance package to the surrendered Maoists. Along with this, the state government will also take the responsibility of providing them better health services, housing and rehabilitation. He said that the Central Government has also allowed the states to provide health, financial assistance and accommodation to the surrendered militants.
Home Minister Amit Shah took cognizance
The Chief Minister said that he has also brought to the notice of Union Home Minister Amit Shah the proposals of the surrendered Central Committee members Devji and Damodar and other leaders. He expressed hope that in future these former Maoists will play a constructive role in conveying the problems of the people to the government.
Revanth Reddy stressed that the solution to any problem is not violence but dialogue. He said that ‘ballot is more powerful than bullet’ and India always believes in solving problems through peaceful means.
The country got independence through peaceful struggle
Giving the example of Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violent movement, the Chief Minister said that he had given independence to the country through peaceful struggle. Even today many countries of the world are resolving disputes through dialogue and democratic methods.
During the programme, the Chief Minister also praised the Telangana Police officials who convinced the Maoists to surrender and assured them of rehabilitation. He said that everyone should participate in the democratic process for peace and development in the state.
