IND vs NZ Final Reserve Day Rule: Today Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will witness the final match of T20 World Cup 2026. In the last one month, many records were broken, upsets were also seen, but all this for one trophy. Till now, after overcoming all the challenges, the teams of India and New Zealand have reached the finals.
Today either India will create history by becoming world champion for the second consecutive time or the New Zealand team will lift its first trophy. Everyone is waiting to see the champion team, but what will happen if the final match does not take place due to rain or any other reason. Know here what is ICC’s rule regarding rain.
If it rains, who will become the champion?
The final match is to be played today i.e. on March 8, but rain has disrupted the match and if the game cannot start till the cut-off time, then efforts will be made to hold at least a 10 over match today itself. If even 10-10 overs of play are not possible in each innings, then the rule of reserve day will be implemented.
March 9 is the reserve day for the final. There are different rules regarding reserve day also. If a few overs are played today after the reduction in overs as per the scheduled schedule, but later the match is not completed due to rain. In this situation, the match will start on the reserve day from the same place from where it was stopped on the previous day.
If it rains even on the reserve day
If the reserve day is also washed out in rain, then both India and New Zealand will be declared joint winners. Earlier in the 2002 Champions Trophy, India and Sri Lanka were declared joint winners due to rain. The good thing is that today the weather in Ahmedabad is expected to be clear and there is no possibility of rain at all.
