‘Big decisions taken on Middle East in CCS meeting…’, Foreign Minister’s big statement on US-Iran war in Rajya Sabha


External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke in detail on the situation in West Asia in the Rajya Sabha. He said that the recent developments in this area are a matter of concern for everyone. Jaishankar told that it all started from 28 February 2026, when several major attacks including those led by Iran took place and there was a lot of loss of life and property. He appealed to all parties to exercise restraint.

Iran war discussed in CCS meeting

Jaishankar said, ‘The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting was held on March 1, 2026. In this the attacks on Iran and the subsequent attacks were discussed. The meeting also focused on regional security and economic impact. The government has instructed all the ministries to take appropriate steps.

Jaishankar has emphasized that the Middle East conflict is a matter of great concern for India. About 1 crore Indian citizens live and work in Gulf countries. There are many Indians in Iran also for studies and other work. He told that there is serious disruption in the supply chain. Merchant Navy ships have been attacked, in which 2 Indians died and 1 is missing.

Foreign Ministry gave advisory to Indians in Iran

On the action of Modi government, S Jaishankar said that the government is constantly assessing the situation. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has advised to avoid non-essential travel to Iran. The Indian Embassy is in touch with the Indians there and is asking them to take necessary precautions.

Jaishankar clearly said that the safety of Indian citizens is the biggest priority of the government. The government is talking to all concerned countries so that Indians remain safe and the situation returns to normal soon.

This statement came on the first day of the second phase of the budget session of Parliament, when the opposition had also demanded a discussion on the issue. Jaishankar reiterated his appeal to all parties to adopt the path of dialogue and diplomacy.
