Public opinion in America is divided regarding America’s military action against Iran. Many new surveys show that most Americans are not in support of this action and they fear that it may make America more unsafe than before. Many surveys conducted after the start of the war with Iran have revealed that people in America have different opinions on the basis of political parties. While Republican voters largely appear to be standing with President Donald Trump’s decision, Democrats and independent voters are more concerned about this military action.
According to a new survey by Quinnipiac University, about 53 percent of registered voters oppose US military action against Iran. About 40 percent people support it, while about 10 percent people could not give a clear opinion on this issue. Similarly, in the Ipsos survey, more people were seen opposing these attacks than supporting them. Some other surveys, such as text message surveys by the Washington Post and CNN, also showed the same trend that more Americans are not in favor of these attacks. However, a Fox News poll found opinions were almost evenly divided, with half of voters supporting the action and half opposing it.
What was the result of which survey?
Many surveys also revealed that many Americans believe that the government did not explain the reason for the attack clearly. Fifty-five percent of voters in the Quinnipiac survey said they did not think Iran posed any immediate military threat to the United States. On the other hand, in the Fox News survey, about 60 percent of voters believed that Iran is a real threat to America’s national security. The fear of increasing oil and petrol prices due to war is also troubling people. In the Quinnipiac survey, a large number of voters said that they are worried that due to this war, the prices of petrol and gas in America may increase. Only about a quarter of people said they were not too worried about it.
Result of the survey conducted between 6 to 9 March
According to a survey conducted by Ipsos between March 6 and 9, about two-thirds of Americans think that petrol prices may increase further in the next one year. Interestingly, many Republican voters also believe that war could cause prices to rise. As the war is spreading in the Middle East, concerns about America’s security are also increasing. In the Quinnipiac and Fox News survey, almost half of the voters said that military action against Iran could make America less safe, while about 30 percent believed that it would make the country more secure. In a CNN survey, about 60 percent of Americans said that they have little or no confidence in President Trump to take military decisions against Iran.
Similarly, in a survey conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago, 56 percent people said that they have very little confidence in Trump’s decisions regarding military action abroad. Most Americans are also worried that the war could get bigger. According to a Quinnipiac survey, nearly three-quarters of voters are against sending American ground troops to Iran. Only about 20 percent people support this move. Even among Republican voters, 52 percent are against sending troops, while 37 percent are in favor of it.
News of death of American soldiers
This concern has increased further after the news of the death of 6 American soldiers came recently. The American government has also admitted that there could be a danger to the lives of American soldiers in this conflict. US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth said that it would not be right to expect the government to tell in advance how far it will go in this war. Overall, the new survey is indicating that if the war with Iran continues for a long time and the economic impact increases, then this issue can become a big political question for American politics and President Trump.
