The Noida International Airport being built in Jewar is on its way to becoming one of the largest and modern airports in the country. In the first phase, flights will start from one runway, which will have the capacity to handle 1 crore 20 lakh passengers annually. It is estimated to operate around 150 flights daily.
According to officials, the construction of the second runway will be started as soon as the annual passenger count crosses the 1 crore mark. After having two runways, the capacity of the airport will suddenly increase to 7 crore passengers annually.
Part of the first phase built on 3,300 acres
In the first phase, the area built on about 3,300 acres is ready for inauguration. So far, 6,700 acres of land has been acquired for the entire project while the remaining 5,100 acres of land will be acquired in the next three months. About Rs 5,000 crore has been spent on land acquisition and about Rs 7,000 crore is being invested in construction.
Jewar airport will have five runways
When the entire project is ready, there will be 5 runways at Jewar Airport and it will be spread over about 11,750 acres. The final passenger capacity of this airport will reach 300 million annually, which can put it in the ranks of the largest airports in the world. Experts believe that once Jewar Airport becomes operational, the ever-increasing pressure on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport will reduce to a great extent.
Will give new option to domestic and international flights
It will emerge as a major transport hub for Delhi-NCR and Western Uttar Pradesh and will provide new options for both domestic and international flights. Logistics, tourism, trade and industry will gain momentum, employment opportunities will be created on a large scale and Uttar Pradesh’s identity will be strengthened on the global investment map.
