China and Russia are not directly involved in the ongoing war in the Middle East, but both the countries are indirectly helping Iran. According to reports, while Russia is providing intelligence to Iran, including data on the movements of US military bases, ships and fighter jets in the Middle East, China is helping strengthen Iran’s military capabilities through its satellite navigation system.
According to the report of Think China, Iran is now using China’s BeiDou satellite navigation system instead of America’s GPS system, which has increased the accuracy of its missile and drone attacks. Analysts say that in previous conflicts, Israel and its allies used electronic warfare techniques to jam the GPS signals of Iranian drones and missiles. Due to this, Iran’s attacks were largely unsuccessful, but now Iran has changed its military guidance system and connected it to China’s BeiDou-3 network, which is considered more secure.
What is BeiDou System?
The BeiDou system is a global satellite navigation network developed by China, which, like GPS, provides accurate location and time information of any place on Earth. This system includes more than 30 satellites and provides navigation services around the world. According to defense experts, BeiDou’s military-level encrypted signal is more secure than traditional GPS. It uses ‘frequency-hopping’ and authentication technology, making it very difficult to confuse with jam or fake signals. This is the reason why Iran’s missile attacks are becoming more accurate than before.
Russia gave EWS to Iran
Some reports also indicate that the increased accuracy of Iranian missiles in recent attacks has led Western intelligence agencies to suspect that Iran is gaining access to China’s satellite data or navigation networks. However, China and Russia have directly denied any military support in the war. Even the Kremlin spokesperson had said that till now Iran has not asked for any help from Russia.
How did Russia help Iran?
If we talk about Russia, it has increased defense and technical cooperation under its strategic partnership agreement with Iran. In the last few years, Russia has also provided Iran with updated electronic warfare systems, which are considered capable of disrupting radar and surveillance systems. Even at the diplomatic level, Russia has been criticizing the US-Israel attacks and gives statements in favor of Iran in international forums. Defense experts believe that this help that Iran is getting from China and Russia can change the entire equation of the Middle East.
