BCCI gave special honor to Shubhman Gill, became Cricketer of the Year even after missing T20 World Cup.

Indian Test and ODI team captain Shubman Gill has been awarded the Polly Umrigar Award. Shubman Gill was chosen the Best International Cricketer of the Year in men’s cricket at the BCCI Naman Awards 2026 held in New Delhi on Sunday, March 15. Indian women’s cricket team’s opening batsman Smriti Mandhana was chosen as BCCI’s Best Women Cricketer of the Year.

The year 2025 was a great year for Shubman Gill, especially in Test and ODI matches. Due to poor form in T20 cricket, he could not be a part of T20 World Cup 2026. But his figures in ODI and Test were quite good. On the England tour, he scored 754 runs in 10 Test innings at an average of 75.40. In this series, he also scored 4 century innings with his bat. That was Gill’s first Test series as captain.

Shubman Gill also made a big contribution in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 trophy win. In the match against Bangladesh, he played an unbeaten inning of 101 runs and at that time he was the world number-1 batsman in ODIs. He had scored 188 runs in the entire Champions Trophy tournament.

The beginning of the year 2026 was very bad for him. He was the vice-captain of the T20 team, but due to poor form, he was not only dropped from the T20 team but also had to lose the T20 World Cup tournament. In his absence, Team India has won the title of T20 World Cup 2026. By defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final, India captured the T20 World Cup trophy for the second time in a row and for the third time in total.
