Australian tech professional Paul Conyngham’s dog Rosie was diagnosed with cancer and according to doctors, she did not have much time left. Paul told in a TV program that Rosie is not just a pet but an important part of his life. She always remained with him in difficult times, so he also decided to do something special for her.
Vaccine plan prepared with the help of ChatGPT
Paul first made a strategy to prepare a vaccine with the help of ChatGPT. They then contacted the UNSW Ramaciotti Center for Genomics so that genomic analysis of the dog’s tumor could be done.
Scientists sequenced the tumor’s DNA and converted that information into digital data. After this, by analyzing that data, the genetic changes that were causing cancer were identified.
Blueprint of mRNA vaccine prepared with AI
Paul told that he used AI to process large amounts of genetic data. During this process, with the help of AI tools, a blueprint of a special mRNA vaccine was prepared which directly targets the genetic disorders present in the tumor.
After receiving DNA sequencing, Paul used multiple data pipelines and algorithms to identify the mutations that were driving the cancer. Based on this, the direction of possible treatment was decided.
Big effect seen in tumor after treatment
According to the report, Rosie was given this treatment around Christmas last year. Shortly after the treatment, the size of his tumor reduced to almost half, which surprised both Paul and the doctor.
Tech world’s reaction to this achievement of AI
Many tech leaders also reacted to this incident. Greg Brockman said that this example shows how AI can help solve complex problems. Whereas Demis Hassabis called it an interesting beginning in the direction of digital biology.
Also, Aravind Srinivas believes that technologies like AlphaFold can give new direction to scientific discoveries in the future and will prove to be very useful for the coming generations. This incident shows that if technology is used properly, AI can become not just a tool but also a life-saving technology.
