‘Talk of peace, but war-like steps…’, experts raised big questions on Trump’s policy

US President Donald Trump calls himself a peace-making leader, but his decisions and steps taken on the ground appear to be exactly the opposite. Foreign affairs expert Wael Awad claimed that Trump’s policies have worsened the situation in many countries.

Difference between Trump’s claims and reality
Foreign affairs expert Wael Awwad said that Trump calls himself a supporter of peace, but his decisions in Venezuela, Iran and Ukraine-Russia war have taken the lives of many people. He said that if Trump really wanted peace, he would have used America’s power to bring all parties to the negotiating table.

Question on the image of ‘Peacemaker’
According to Awwad, Trump presents himself as a contender for the Nobel Peace Prize and repeatedly talks about peace talks, but his very definition of “peace” is controversial. He said that Trump’s thinking is related to the ideology of “America First” and Make America Great Again, which does not work well in a multipolar world.

Three military options – war or compromise
Awwad said that Trump has three options. First, to reach an agreement with Iran by ending the war and blockade, through which both sides can reduce tension. The second option is to put pressure on Iran by continuously bombing, so that it is forced to negotiate.

The third option is the most dangerous?
He said that Trump is currently showing inclination towards the third option of continuing the blockade against Iran. But this may worsen the situation and Iran may take retaliatory military action, which may lead to a major conflict.

Why is India-Iran talks important?
Awad also described the talks between India and Iran as important. He said that contact between S Jaishankar and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is necessary because India’s interests are linked to this region. Stability is very important for India especially due to the trade and energy supply passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran also takes a tough stance
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that the Persian Gulf is not the playing field of any foreign power, thereby indirectly targeting America.
