Tamil Nadu Elections 2026: Congress releases list of 27 candidates; Selvaperunthagai, Durai in fray — See full list

The Congress announced on Friday, April 3, names of 27 candidates for upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. The list shows that the Congress has fielded nominees across a wide range of constituencies, including reserved and general seats.

As per the list, Durai Chandrasekar will contest from Ponneri (SC), while JMH Aassan Maulaana has been fielded from Velachery.

Senior leader K. Selvaperunthagai fight the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026 from Sriperumbudur (SC), and AM Munirathinam has been fielded from Sholingur.

Other prominent candidates included in the list are: Dr. A. Chella Kumar from Krishnagiri, GKM Tamil Kumaran from Pennagaram, and Gopinath Palaniyappan from Erode (East).

In a press release on Friday, the party said the Central Election Committee of the Congress has selected the following persons as party candidates for the elections to the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu. Here’s the full list: :

BJP releases candidate list

The Congress’ rival, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), also released a list of 27 candidates for the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls on Friday, fielding Union minister L Murugan from Avanashi seat and former Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan from Mylapore.

BJP Mahila Morcha national president Vanathi Srinivasan will enter the fray from Coimbatore (North), according to a list issued by the party.

The party has named Kirthika Shivkumar as its candidate from Modakkurichi, S Vijayadharani from Vilavancode and Nagesh Kumar from Thalli seat.

Polling for the 234-member Tamil Nadu assembly is slated to be held on April 23.

The Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections are set to take place this month. The voting will be held on April 23 and the results will be announced on May 4. There are as many as 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu.

The BJP and the AIADMK have joined hand to fight polls against MK Stalin’s Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the Congress.
