Shubhendu roared before counting – CM Mamata may keep doing drama for two more days, but…

BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari on Friday (1 May 2026) accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of ‘drama’ in front of the counting center last night. At the BJP election office in Bhawanipur, he said that the Chief Minister may keep doing such drama for two more days, but the results will not change.

Shubhendu, who is contesting against the Trinamool Congress chief from Bhawanipur constituency, said, ‘What she (Mamata Banerjee) is doing is nothing less than drama. She reached the counting center in a vehicle equipped with facilities like washroom and stayed there for four hours. Even if she wants to change the result, it will never happen. He alleged that Mamata Banerjee wanted to stay at the counting center till May 4.

He said, ‘Vigilant BJP workers foiled their conspiracy after seeing the vehicle equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. Since there was no suitable place for them to stay for a long time, they had to return. It is certain that she (Mamata) will be out of power in West Bengal. Shubhendu, who is also contesting from Nandigram in East Medinipur district, had gone to Sakhawat Girls counting center as a candidate.

On Mamata Banerjee’s allegations of EVM manipulation, he said, “What is her plan? Whatever she is doing is not right. She is frustrated because she is losing. Change is taking place in West Bengal and everyone knows this. The true results will be known by the afternoon of May 4, but the BJP government is coming.”

Mamata Banerjee had reached the counting center of Bhawanipur assembly constituency on Thursday (30 April 2026) evening, expressing apprehension of EVM tampering. Mamata, who left the counting center at Sakhawat Memorial School in South Kolkata after midnight, said that only one person would be allowed to enter the designated counting area. Taking a tough stand before the counting of votes, he said, ‘If any conspiracy is hatched to cause any kind of disturbance in the counting process, it will not be tolerated.’
