After Trump on ceasefire, China lied, India exposed – ‘between two countries’

The politics of taking credit for the ceasefire between India and Pakistan has intensified at the international level. First US President Donald Trump and now China claimed mediation in the ceasefire, but India rejected the statements of both and made it clear that this was entirely a matter between the two countries. Indian government sources have clearly stated that there was no role of any third country at any level and after Operation Sindoor, Pakistan itself had demanded a ceasefire from India.

India’s clarification after China’s statement
This clarification has come at a time when China, reiterating US President Donald Trump’s claim, called itself the mediator of peace talks between India and Pakistan. China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi had said in a recent statement that Beijing has played a role in resolving many global conflicts, including the India-Pakistan conflict.

‘India’s stand has always been clear’
Government sources told NDTV that India’s stand on mediation has always been clear. There was no mediation after Operation Sindoor. India has always said that there is no scope for interference by any third party. It was Pakistan that had approached India’s DGMO for ceasefire.

On which issues did China claim to mediate?
Addressing a seminar in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that there were many local wars and cross-border conflicts in the world this year. He claimed that China mediated in matters like Myanmar, Iran’s nuclear issue, India-Pakistan tension, Palestine-Israel conflict and Cambodia-Thailand dispute.

Official statement of the Ministry of External Affairs
In the press briefing held on May 13, 2025, the Ministry of External Affairs had said that the date, time and terminology of the ceasefire were decided in the talks between the DGMOs of the two countries. The ministry had clarified that no other country had any role in this process.
