The schedule of IPL 2026 may be released in two different phases. It is being told that due to the assembly elections to be held in 3 states including West Bengal, BCCI may announce the schedule of the next season in half. The next season can be played from 26 March to 31 May.
Assembly elections are to be held in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Assam this year. Because of them BCCI can announce half the schedule in the first phase and the rest in the second phase. The matches for the first 2-3 weeks can be held in those states where elections are not to be held. When the date of assembly elections and voting will be revealed, then BCCI will announce the remaining schedule. This will avoid organizing matches in those states in which elections are to be held.
When will the schedule be announced?
20-25 matches can be announced in the first phase, which can happen at the end of February. It is possible to schedule the second phase in the middle of March. This announcement will be made when the Election Commission has announced the date of voting.
Due to elections, the entire focus of the police is on maintaining security in the entire state. In such a situation, it will not be possible for the police force to provide security in grounds like Eden Gardens (Kolkata) and Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai). Therefore, BCCI would not like to organize matches in those states on election days.
A new challenge is ahead
If there is any hindrance in holding the match in Kolkata, it is shifted to Guwahati’s Baraspara Stadium (Assam), but this time elections are to be held in Assam also. At the same time, IPL 2026 will start a few days after the end of T20 World Cup 2026, in such a situation, the support staff will also need time to re-prepare grounds like Eden Gardens, Chidambaram Stadium and Chepauk Stadium.
