Ashutosh was working as Senior Manager-Research Scientist in Nigam Company. When the company suspected data theft and the accused was interrogated, he admitted to data exfiltration through video recording. After this the company dismissed him from service on December 3, 2025.

The company claims that the estimated value of the stolen software and source code is around 8 million euros (approximately Rs 87 crore). This incident has caused huge commercial loss to the company and has posed a direct threat to its intellectual property.

Under which sections did the police register the FIR?

Police have registered a case under sections 65, 66, 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and started investigation. The police have also presented a report in this regard in the court. The investigation is ongoing and further action is being taken.
