A sensational case of data theft has come to light from Bengaluru, which is known as the IT capital of the country, which has raised serious questions regarding data security and corporate privacy in the IT industry. In this case, a software company is being estimated to suffer a loss of around 80 lakh euros i.e. around Rs 87 crore.
Bengaluru City Police has registered an FIR in this regard at CEN Crime Police Station in White Field. This case has been registered under crime number 0050/2026. According to the FIR, Amadeus Software Labs India Private Limited has filed a complaint that their former employee Ashutosh Nigam stole the company’s confidential source code and other sensitive data. It is alleged that on October 11, 2025, Ashutosh Nigam transferred important data of the company without permission through his personal email account.
Officer dismissed after questioning on suspicion of data theft
Ashutosh was working as Senior Manager-Research Scientist in Nigam Company. When the company suspected data theft and the accused was interrogated, he admitted to data exfiltration through video recording. After this the company dismissed him from service on December 3, 2025.
The company claims that the estimated value of the stolen software and source code is around 8 million euros (approximately Rs 87 crore). This incident has caused huge commercial loss to the company and has posed a direct threat to its intellectual property.
Under which sections did the police register the FIR?
Police have registered a case under sections 65, 66, 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and started investigation. The police have also presented a report in this regard in the court. The investigation is ongoing and further action is being taken.
