Amidst the ongoing tension in West Asia, the Government of India on Sunday (March 15, 2026) has given a complete update regarding energy supply, maritime security and Indians stranded there. The Government of India has issued a statement saying that the supply of petrol, diesel and LPG in the country is completely normal and there is no need to panic.
What is the status of LPG in India?
According to the statement issued by PIB, the government has clarified that there is no dry-out situation on LPG distributorships across the country. However, while there were 88.8 lakh bookings on Friday (March 13, 2026), it came down to 77 lakh the next day on Saturday (March 14, 2026). This means that panic booking by people has reduced. Apart from this, the figure of online LPG booking has increased from 84% to 87%.
The statement said that the government has made changes in the LPG control order. Now the houses which have PNG connection will have to surrender their LPG connection. New PNG consumers will not get LPG connection. Apart from this, the interval of LPG booking has been reduced to 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas so that the supply remains equal.
Strict instructions on hoarding
Raids are being conducted in many states including Andhra Pradesh and Bihar to stop hoarding and black marketing of LPG. Officials of PSU oil companies are also conducting surprise inspections on distributorships. For this, the government has also created control rooms in 22 states and UTs of the country.
What is the condition of petrol and diesel?
The government said that all the refineries are running at full capacity. There is sufficient stock of petrol and diesel in the country. There is no need to import these. There is no news of fuel shortage at any retail outlet i.e. petrol pump.
What is happening in the ocean?
The government said that at the time of the attack on Fujairah Port on Saturday (March 14, 2026), the Indian ship ‘Jag Ladki’ was loading crude oil there. The ship escaped safely and headed towards India. It contains about 80,800 metric tons of Murban Crude Oil. Apart from this, two Indian LPG tankers Shivalik and Nanda Devi sank in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday (March 14). Hormuz) of which about 92,712 metric tonnes will reach Mundra Port on Monday (16 March) and Nanda Deva on Tuesday (17 March).
The government said that there are still 22 Indian ships and 611 sailors in the west of the Persian Gulf. DG shipping monitoring continues. So far 276 Indian sailors have been brought back, 23 more have returned in the last 24 hours.
What did the government say on the return of Indians?
The Indian government said in its statement that since February 28, 2026, about 1,94,000 passengers have returned to India from this area. Flights from UAE to India are continuing from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ras Al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Fujairah. Qatar’s airspace is partially open. Qatar Airways is running limited flights to India, of which today one flight is to Delhi. Whereas airspace is closed in Bahrain, Kuwait and Iraq. Indians are being evacuated from there via Saudi Arabia.
Government’s appeal to the people
The government has appealed to the people not to panic while booking LPG. LPG cylinders can be booked through IVRS, SMS, WhatsApp and apps of oil companies, it is advised to change the service where PNG is available.
