BJP leader Ram Madhav, while commenting sharply on America’s stance, said that India has already taken many major decisions under American pressure. He said that at the behest of America, India not only stopped buying oil from Iran but also put a brake on oil imports from Russia.
According to Ram Madhav, due to these decisions the Indian government had to face strong criticism from the opposition at the domestic level. He raised the question that when India has already made so many agreements, what else does America want?
His statement has come at a time when America-Iran tension is at its peak and pressure on energy, diplomacy and strategic balance is increasing at the global level. However, Ram Madhav later apologized by posting on X and said that the statement he gave was wrong.
He said, ‘What I said was wrong. India never agreed to stop importing oil from Russia. Besides, India had also strongly opposed the imposition of 50 percent tariff. I was just trying to make a limited argument in response to the other panelist’s point, but my point was wrong on the facts. I am sorry for this.
A 12-member delegation led by Darpan Jain, Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, held talks on the finer aspects of the trade deal with the US team led by Assistant USTR for South and Central Asia Brendan Lynch. The talks, which lasted for three days, ended on Wednesday (22 April 2026). US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, after completing talks on a bilateral trade agreement with the Indian delegation, said that India is a difficult challenge.
Jamieson Greer told the ‘Ways and Means Committee’ of the US Congress on Wednesday, ‘India is a difficult challenge. They have protected their agricultural markets for a long time. They want to preserve a large part of this agreement. However, there are some areas where I think we can reach mutual agreement. DDGS (Distillers Dried Grains) is a good example of this.
