Indian Railways has now adopted a strict stance regarding incidents of stone pelting on trains. Railways says that such illegal and anti-social activities not only endanger the safety of passengers and railway employees, but also cause huge damage to public property.
How many cases of stone pelting have Indian Railways registered so far?
According to the data released by the Railways, between July and December 2025, 1,698 cases of stone pelting on trains have been registered across the country, in which 665 accused have been arrested. Of these, maximum cases of stone pelting on trains were registered in Northern Railway, where 363 such incidents were reported. After this, 219 cases have been registered in East Central Railway, 140 in South Central Railway, 126 in North Central Railway, 116 in Western Railway and 108 in Southern Railway.
Apart from this, many incidents of stone pelting have also been recorded in the rest of the railway zones of the country. According to railway data, 96 cases are in Central Railway, 80 in South Western Railway, 77 in West Central Railway, 71 in Eastern Railway, 67 in North East Frontier Railway, 55 in North Western Railway, 51 in South Eastern Railway, 51 in South East Central Railway, 50 in East Coast Railway, 25 in North Eastern Railway and 3 cases are registered in Konkan Railway.
What did the railway officials say?
Death of top Railway officials: In the last few months, Railways has increased surveillance and intensified patrolling in sensitive rail route areas, due to which the accused of stone pelting are being identified and arrested as soon as possible. Railway official told ABP News that this action is being taken because the Railways will not compromise in any way with the safety of passengers.
Stone pelting is a serious criminal offense – Indian Railways
Along with this, a statement issued by the Railways said that stone pelting is a serious criminal offence. Under which, strict legal action will be taken against the culprits by registering a case under relevant legal sections and arrest will be made and any person found involved in such activities will have to face serious legal consequences. In this regard, Railways has also appealed to the common citizens to play the role of a responsible citizen and cooperate with the Railway Administration in smooth operations.
