OpenAI ChatGPT: A new report by OpenAI has revealed that a large number of people around the world are now taking the help of ChatGPT for healthcare related questions. According to the report, every week about 4 crore users are using this AI chatbot for medical and health related information. This means that almost one out of every four users is dependent on AI for health support in some form or the other.

Health related inquiries increased after GPT-5

It has also been told in the report that after the launch of GPT-5 model, there was a sharp increase in questions related to healthcare. Especially the topics related to health insurance were asked the most. These include information like comparing plans, understanding expenses, claim and billing process, eligibility, registration and coverage.

Every week lakhs of questions only on health insurance.

According to OpenAI, every week about 20 lakh messages are received only on questions related to health insurance. Overall, these questions make up about 5 percent of global ChatGPT users. Statistics show that every week 16 to 19 lakh messages are sent only on queries related to insurance.

More questions from rural areas

An important thing has also come to light in the report that most of the questions related to health insurance and medical information are coming from those rural and backward areas where health facilities are limited. In such areas, it is not easy for people to understand medical terms and procedures, hence AI has emerged as a helpful tool for them.

Information about symptoms, terms and treatment is the reason

According to the survey, more than 55 percent people ask questions to ChatGPT to understand their symptoms. At the same time, 48 percent users take the help of AI to know the meaning of medical terms. Apart from this, 44 percent people are also using chatbots to understand possible treatment options.

AI is reducing the distance between doctor and patient

OpenAI believes that AI tools like ChatGPT are proving to be especially helpful in places where there is a shortage of doctors and medical facilities. In such a situation, this technology is reducing the distance between people and the healthcare system to some extent.

Caution is necessary with trust

However, the report also raised concerns that excessive reliance on AI could be risky. Sometimes AI can give wrong or incomplete information which is called AI hallucination. Therefore, in serious health related matters, it is very important to seek advice from an expert doctor or professional instead of relying only on AI.
