Google Play Store: To strengthen the security of Android users, Google has taken the biggest action ever on Play Store. The company has removed more than 17.5 lakh suspicious and fake apps from the platform. With this, about 80,000 developer accounts have been permanently blocked. This step is considered important towards making the Android ecosystem more secure in 2025.
Apps were full of malware and scams
Most of the removed apps had dangerous malware hidden in them. These apps could steal money from users, activate paid subscriptions without their knowledge or access personal data. Many apps were a direct threat to the privacy of users. The company said that its AI-based security system had already identified these apps, due to which they were stopped before they could reach the users on a large scale.
2.55 lakh apps blocked from accessing data
Google’s security technology blocked about 2.55 lakh apps before they could access sensitive user data. This means that a large number of potential data theft and fraud incidents were averted in time.
Permanent ban on 80 thousand developers
Developer accounts that were accused of repeatedly breaking rules and spreading fraud were not only removed but were also barred from entering the Play Store in the future. The company made it clear that the security of users is the top priority, hence such accounts will not be given a second chance.
Strict monitoring and new policy in Play Store
This action is part of a larger strategy to keep the Android platform clean and safe. Now apps are being tested through AI tools right from their initial development stage. These tools are linked to the Data Safety section of Android Studio and Play Store so that any kind of malware, spyware or fraudulent activity can be detected quickly. Not just apps, the company has also removed more than 16 crore fake reviews and ratings so that users do not fall prey to fake ratings.
Indian users will also get benefit
Android users across the world including India will directly benefit from this strictness. The main objective of this step is to reduce fake apps, less online fraud and more secure downloading experience. Google has indicated that this campaign will not stop here. In the coming time, the AI based security system will be further strengthened so that the Play Store can become more secure and reliable than before.
