Srinagar Airport: Srinagar flights canceled due to Delhi Airport NOTAM and heavy snowfall, road connectivity also affected

Due to NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) issued at Delhi Airport and continuous bad weather in Kashmir Valley, many flights to and from Srinagar Airport have been canceled today. Passengers are facing a lot of problems. The airport administration and airlines have appealed to the passengers to check the latest status of their flight before going to the airport.

Heavy snowfall in Kashmir Valley on Friday has covered the entire area with a white sheet of snow. A sharp drop in temperature has been recorded in many areas including Srinagar. Air services have been badly affected due to continuous snowfall and low visibility. At Srinagar International Airport, aircraft movement had to be stopped due to accumulation of snow on the runway and very low visibility.

Temporary ban on all flights from Srinagar Airport

Initially 22 flights were cancelled, but as the weather conditions worsened, all flight operations were temporarily halted as a precautionary measure. Giving information on social media platform Passengers have been asked to contact their respective airlines to get the latest information. The airport administration has also shared a list of a total of 26 incoming and outgoing flights, which have been canceled due to weather and technical reasons.

Airlines issued travel advisory

Indigo Airlines issued a travel advisory saying that due to snowfall in Srinagar, flight operations have been temporarily suspended. The airline said that as soon as the weather improves and the runway is declared completely safe, flights will be gradually resumed. Passengers are also being given rebooking and refund options, although the possibility of delays remains.

Road traffic also badly affected

Along with air services, road connectivity has also been affected. Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) has been closed as a precautionary measure near Navyug Tunnel. Apart from this, Mughal Road and Sinthan Road are also closed at many places due to heavy snow accumulation. Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police has stopped the vehicles at safe places keeping in mind the safety of the passengers.

Runway clear, hope for gradual restoration

According to the latest information, Border Roads Organization (BRO) has completed the work of removing snow from the runway of Srinagar Airport and conditional approval has been given for the operations. Due to this, partial resumption of flights is expected in the coming hours, although there remains complete dependence on the weather.

Difficulties for passengers increased due to expensive fares

Due to continuous cancellation of flights, many passengers have complained about the sudden increase in air fares. Due to lack of alternative flights and uncertainty of weather, the problems of common passengers have increased further.

Administration’s appeal: Avoid unnecessary travel

According to the Meteorological Department, there is still a possibility of heavy snowfall in Srinagar and surrounding areas. The administration has appealed to the people to avoid unnecessary travel and follow weather related guidelines.

24×7 helpline number issued in Poonch district

In view of the bad weather, the district police in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir has issued 24-hour helpline numbers to assist the common people. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Poonch said that the safety of citizens is the top priority and the police is ready to provide immediate help in case of any emergency.
