Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday (4 March 2026). He has made a strong demand to the Home Minister to increase the number of IPS officers as per the security needs of the state. He said that at present there are only 83 IPS officers in the state, which should be increased to 105. During the meeting, Revanth Reddy mentioned the first cadre review held in 2016 after state bifurcation, the 2021 review which was delayed to 2025 and yielded only 7 additional IPS.
The Chief Minister said that Telangana is now struggling with cyber crime, drugs, white collar crime and modern challenges. There is a plan to create Future City Commissionerate along with the reorganization of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri Commissionerates. Due to increasing population, there is a need for IPS officers on a large scale. He also appealed to conduct the third cadre review on time in 2026.
What did Revanth Reddy say about Maoists?
Revanth Reddy also told Amit Shah that in the last years, 591 Maoists in the state have given up their arms and joined the mainstream. Recently many big Maoist leaders have also come forward to live a normal life. The state government is providing them compensation and rehabilitation facilities as per the rules. He also demanded additional funds from the Center for the development of forest areas. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Principal Secretary V. Seshadri, DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy, Intelligence ADGP Vijay Kumar and SIB IGP B. Sumati was also present. Amit Shah praised the anti-Maoist actions of Telangana Police and assured of increasing Centre-State coordination.
Considerable improvement in Telangana policing
There has been a lot of improvement in Telangana policing in the last two years. Revanth Reddy stressed that a strong police force is necessary to deal with modern crimes. This meeting is being considered as the beginning of a new chapter of security and development for Telangana. Now everyone’s eyes are on the decision of the Central Government. It is expected that Telangana will get its due in the cadre review of 2026 and the police system of the state will become stronger.
