Microsoft has rolled out a new feature for the security of Windows 11, which will stop any risky software before it can enter the operating system. It’s called Windows Baseline Security Mode and it will block any unsigned apps, services, and drivers that run in the background. Its advantage will be that if the user accidentally downloads any such software or app, then Windows will block it at its level.
How will the new feature work?
With the introduction of this feature, there has been a big change at the system level. Actually, with the help of drivers and background services, it is easy to gain access to a system. For this reason attackers use them. Once installed, they can monitor other apps and continue to operate in the background. Now after the arrival of the new feature, Windows will keep an eye on code signing. If any signed software is installed, this feature will not interfere, but it will block the software with unsigned code even before it is installed.
User transparency and consent is also being expanded
Along with introducing Baseline Security Mode, Microsoft is also expanding user transparency and consent. When an app uses a sensitive device feature or data, the user will get a prompt. If any software wants to access microphone, camera, files and system level permissions, then the user will get notification about it. This is also important because nowadays any software comes with many other installers, which require many permissions. Now this new change will make it difficult for them to access sensitive device settings and data.
