He is a 1989 batch officer of the Indian Railway Signal Engineering Service (IRSSE).
Hailing from Gorakhpur, did M.Tech from IIT Delhi
Rajesh Kumar Pandey is a resident of Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh. He has long experience related to his post. Pandey holds a B.E. in Electronics from Madan Mohan Malviya Engineering College, Gorakhpur. (BE), after which he did M.Tech from IIT Delhi.
Held many important posts in the department
He started his career in Indian Railways as Assistant Signal and Telecommunication Engineer in Barauni. Since then, he has served in many high level roles in the railway network. As the Director of Inspection in RDSO, he improved the quality assurance protocols. In East-Central Railway, he has worked as Additional Divisional Railway Manager in Samastipur Division and Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) in Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Division.
Subsequently worked in various positions in Western Railways, notably leading the establishment of ‘Axle Counter’ in the Mumbai Suburban section so that services were not affected during monsoon. He is recognized for playing an important role in railway infrastructure and safety projects. During his tenure as DRM, he played an important role in completing the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor.
Special role in the development of ‘Kavach’
Rajesh Kumar Pandey has also played a special role in the development and implementation of India’s indigenous automatic train protection system, ‘Kavach’. Recently, while serving as Additional Member (Signal) in the Railway Board, he had successfully supervised the installation of ‘Kavach’ on a 400 km long railway section, which will also greatly help in railway safety.
Prepared the vision of Northern Railway
Rajesh Kumar Pandey has also prepared a vision for Northern Railway as soon as he took charge. As soon as he took command of Northern Railway, Pandey has prepared a draft of strategic priorities with the aim of making the Northern Railway zone hi-tech and improving the passenger experience. Under the vision, safety has been kept paramount to strengthen safety standards in operations. After this, quality service delivery has been said to be important to ensure (punctuality). Also, the aim is to strengthen the infrastructure and develop railway infrastructure at a rapid pace while paying attention to quality.
