ChatGPT’s weekly active users in India have crossed 100 million and it is now the company’s second largest market after the US. According to the company’s new data, people in India are using ChatGPT more than the rest of the world for coding, data analysis, learning and task-focused work. People in India are adopting advanced AI tools faster than other countries.
For which purposes is ChatGPT used more in India?
According to OpenAI Signals, India is emerging as the most technically engaged market for ChatGPT and Plus and Pro users here are using 4 times the data analysis tools compared to the rest of the world. Similarly, the use of Codect for coding tasks is also three times more here. In India, people ask three times more questions related to coding and two times more questions related to education and learning compared to other countries. Talking about coding, most questions are asked from big technology hubs like Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Around the world, about 30 percent of people’s questions are work related, whereas in India, about 35 percent of people’s messages on ChatGPT are work related. Most of these questions are related to drafting, editing, technical assistance, enhancing workflow and debugging. Apart from work, if we talk about questions, about 35 percent of the messages are related to practical guidance, 20 percent are related to general information and writing test. This means that people are using this chatbot extensively for work as well as for learning, decision making and personal productivity.
Most of the youth using ChatGPT
Most of the users using ChatGPT in India are in the age group of 18-24 years. 80 percent of consumer messages sent on this chatbot are being sent by people aged 18-34 years.
