The effect of this was that ChatGPT became the most downloaded app last year and the second most downloaded app till date in the whole world. Other apps downloaded in this category include Google Gemini, DeepSeek, DuaBio, Grok, Meta Eye and Microsoft Copilot etc.

Dominance of social media apps still continues

That means every user has spent about 90 minutes daily on social media platforms, which is 5 percent more than in 2024. TikTok still remains at the forefront in terms of downloads, in-app purchases and total time spent.

India leads in downloading AI apps

India leads the world in downloading generative AI apps and using chatbots. India alone accounts for 20 percent of the total apps downloaded worldwide, but India lags behind in terms of in-app purchases and usage. That means, after downloading the app, people in India are not spending money for its premium or other features. In 2025, only 1% of Indian users were in in-app purchases.
