Amidst the increasing tension in Western Asia, rumors of LPG shortage in the country are spreading rapidly. There is an atmosphere of fear among the common people regarding these news, but the Central Government has made it clear that there will be no shortage of LPG for domestic consumers.
The Union Home Secretary held an important meeting with the Chief Secretaries and DGPs of all the states and union territories of the country. Secretaries of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Ministry of Consumer Affairs were also present in this meeting.
The government had issued the LPG Control Order on 8 March 2026. Under this, all refineries and petrochemical complexes have been instructed to maximize LPG production and give priority to supply to domestic consumers. Under this order, a ban has been imposed on LPG supply to commercial establishments like hotels and restaurants. Although hospitals and educational institutions have been kept out of this, their supplies will continue as before.
What instructions did the Center give to the states?
All States and Union Territories have been asked to—
-Enhance the security of LPG supply chain
-Monitor supplies daily
-Take strict action against those who break the rules
-Run awareness campaigns through oil marketing companies so that rumors do not spread.
Keep an eye on social media also
States have also been asked to keep an eye on social media and immediately remove any old or baseless news that is being tried to create chaos.
Home Ministry’s control room active 24×7
The Home Ministry has further strengthened its control room. It is working 24 hours, 7 days. Nodal officers of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Petroleum have also been included in this so that any rumor can be immediately investigated and correct information can be given to the states immediately.
