The Assam government on Tuesday decided to change the name of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital. This decision has been approved in the state cabinet meeting. Now Congress has targeted this. He has called it an insult to the former President. Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed was the 7th President of India. He was the second President who died while in office.
Addressing the press conference, CM Himanta Vishwa Sarma said that most of the government medical colleges in the state are named after the places where they are located. He said that all the medical colleges in the state have been named after their places. We see this in the medical colleges of Guwahati, Dhubri, Silchar, Bongaigaon, Biswanath and Sonitpur. Somehow, the hospital at Barpeta was named Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital, which does not match the naming convention of other medical colleges.’

Keeping in view the prestige of former President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, the government will name some other institute after him.
