‘Consumption of beef is necessary to be a good Hindu’, WhatsApp message created uproar, SC also immediately issued notice, know what is the whole matter?

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the petition in which an appeal has been made to cancel the FIR against a person accused of forwarding objectionable WhatsApp messages against Hindus. On Thursday (March 12, 2026), the Supreme Court agreed to hear his petition and sent a notice to Madhya Pradesh Police and others.

In this message it was said – ‘To be a good Hindu, consumption of beef is necessary.’ Justice B.V. This petition was filed before the bench of Justice Nagarathna and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan, which has been filed by a person named Buddha Prakash Baudh.

Buddha Prakash Boudh had earlier filed a petition in the Madhya Pradesh High Court demanding cancellation of the case against him. However, the High Court rejected his appeal, after which Buddha Prakash Boudh moved the Supreme Court. The High Court had said in its order that the allegations made in the FIR prima facie reflect the elements of the crimes under which the case has been registered.

The High Court had said, ‘The present case is related to the publication or dissemination of such material which can hurt religious sentiments or promote disagreement and disharmony in the society. The allegations made in the disputed FIR, if seen in their original form, prima facie reflect the elements of the offenses charged.

Police say Buddha Prakash Boudh had posted a seven-page message on WhatsApp, which made derogatory and misleading comments about Hinduism and the Brahmin community. The complaint alleges that the messages claimed that ‘to be a good Hindu, consumption of beef is necessary and on certain occasions, sacrifice of bulls and consumption of meat is mandatory.’

The messages also said that Brahmins regularly consumed beef and that cows and bulls were allegedly sacrificed in various religious rituals. After this, an FIR was registered against Buddh under various sections of the Indian Justice Code.
