West Bengal Elections 2026: ‘BJP will suffer loss in West Bengal due to SIR’, TMC makes big claim

Senior Trinamool Congress leader Firhad Hakim said on Monday that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists could backfire for the BJP in the West Bengal Assembly elections. He said that the people of the state stand strongly with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

According to ‘PTI’, Hakim said during the election campaign that Hakim said that the aggressive campaign of BJP under the leadership of central leaders has created more air in this election than last time, but he stressed that the ground situation has still not changed.

Kolkata Mayor said, ‘According to me there has been no difference (in the ground situation). BJP’s campaign is more this year because its central leaders are visiting again and again. State BJP does not have any strong base of its own in Bengal, hence they have to take the help of national leaders. But the people of Bengal are ready to vote for Trinamool and elect Mamata Banerjee as Chief Minister for the fourth time.

Hakim alleged that the SIR process has angered voters instead of influencing Trinamool. He said, ‘If two names have been removed from a family of seven, then the rest of the family will be angry with the BJP and the Election Commission. Those who had a legitimate right to vote and could not vote will remember this. The anger over the issue of voter list can weigh heavily on the BJP.

What did Hakim say about NRC

Hakim claimed that this issue has given political advantage to Trinamool. He said, ‘Before every election, BJP fights against the people of Bengal, not against the opposition. We fought a political battle with the Left for 34 years, but we never fought with the people. Last time there was NRC, this time there is voter list.

Hakim claimed that voters of all communities have been affected by the SIR process. He said, ‘When the computer does the matching, it does not know who is a Hindu and who is a Muslim. Names are removed due to any discrepancy. Hindus are affected, Muslims are affected.
