Independent Hindu candidate won in Godhra ward which has 100 percent Muslim voters.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again proved its dominance in Gujarat civic elections 2026. BJP has made a clean sweep by registering victory in all the municipal corporations. Godhra has once again become a topic of discussion in this election. In Godhra Municipality, independent candidate Apekshaben Naineshbhai Soni registered a landslide victory from Ward No. 7. This is an area where 100 percent voters are Muslims. This means that the Hindu candidate has won the seat where all the voters are Muslims.

New form of politics seen in Godhra

The victory of Apekshaben Naineshbhai Soni has written a new political story in Godhra. She herself is not a registered voter in Ward-7, yet she managed to win the trust of the local people. The voting held here broke the tradition of traditional religious and caste-based voting patterns.

BJP’s dominance in Municipal Corporation

BJP showed its strong hold in urban politics by capturing 158 out of 192 seats in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. In municipal corporations, the party has so far secured 846 seats, while Congress has won 71 and others have won 12 seats. BJP won 1,889 seats in the municipality, while Congress won 408 and others 172 seats. BJP has won 802 seats in district panchayats, Congress has won 116 seats and other parties have won 43 seats.

BJP won Vadodara Municipal Corporation

The BJP has won the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, securing 51 of the 56 declared seats (including two unopposed), crossing the majority mark in the 76-member body. In Rajkot Municipal Corporation, BJP has won 57 seats out of 61 declared seats out of 72, while in Jamnagar Municipal Corporation, the party has won 44 out of 48 declared seats out of 64. BJP has also won Navsari Municipal Corporation and Morbi Municipal Corporation, where it has maintained a clear majority even as the counting of votes continues.

BJP hoisted the flag in these areas also

In Porbandar Municipal Corporation, the party has won all 34 declared seats out of the 52 seats counted so far, including 11 uncontested seats. Other urban local bodies where the BJP won were Khambhat Municipality (22 out of 36 seats), Sojitra (15 out of 24), Tarapur (13 out of 24), Palanpur Municipality (27 out of 44), Vyara Municipality (26 out of 28, including nine unopposed), Dhanera Municipality (19 out of 28), Nakhtarana Municipality, Sidhpur Municipality (26 out of 36, including three unopposed), and Bhuj and Mundra municipalities in Kutch district.
