On the 14th day of the ongoing fierce conflict between Iran-Israel and America, a serious crisis has arisen regarding the safety of Indian sailors stranded in the sea. In this regard, Forward Seamen’s Union of India (FSUI) has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding immediate intervention to save the lives of Indian sailors stranded at Iranian ports. The union has warned that due to the conflict, there is a severe shortage of fuel, drinking water and food on the ships and a blackout-like situation may arise in the coming days.

FSUI submit list of Indian sailors stranded in Iran: DG Shipping

Union General Secretary Manoj Yadav had a special conversation with ABP News on this serious issue. He said that the figure of 778 sailors available with the government is only of the officially registered people. The reality is much more frightening than this. He said that thousands of Indian sailors are stranded in the sea on different foreign and Iranian ships, of which there is no government record.

Explaining the main reason for this discrepancy, Manoj Yadav said that these sailors were selected illegally, due to which they could not be included in the government statistics. In this time of crisis, identifying these sailors has become a big challenge. He said DG Shipping has contacted FSUI and other unions and requested that if they are able to contact any such seafarers, their list should be submitted to the department.

FSUI submitted names of 70 sailors to the government

The General Secretary further informed that the union is working on a war footing in this direction. Within the last 24 hours, FSUI has submitted to the government the list of about 70 such sailors, whose names were not earlier recorded in any government record. These sailors are currently stranded in sensitive areas like Bandar Abbas, BIK Iran, Siri Island and Lavan Island and are pleading for help as communication services are down.

FSUI appeals to PM Modi

FSUI President Bankim Bharti and General Secretary Manoj Yadav have appealed to Prime Minister Modi that the government should take diplomatic steps to provide basic needs like food and water to these sailors as soon as possible. The union believes that if concrete action is not taken in the next few days, the situation for thousands of Indians stranded at Iranian ports will go out of control and the humanitarian crisis may deepen.
