While discussing a show on Star Sports, former cricketer Robin Uthappa said that this could be the last year in IPL for Dhoni. He said that this time Dhoni will be playing the role of more of a mentor than a player. Uthappa clearly said that he sees MS Dhoni batting at number eight and not at number seven.
Earlier, former cricketer Irfan Pathan has also predicted that MS Dhoni will not play in the Indian Premier League after 2026. However, he also said that it would be very difficult to imagine Chennai Super Kings and IPL without Dhoni.
Since IPL 2024, there have been only 3 occasions when MS Dhoni has batted at number 5 or higher. In IPL 2025, he batted at ninth position twice. Usually only bowlers ranked 9th and below come to bat.
